Everything Google Announced at Google I/O 2026: Gemini, search, Android XR and More

Google I/O kicks off today, and the vibe is entirely different this year.  Over the next two days, the spotlight is entirely on agentic AI, deep tech breakthroughs, and a massive shift in how our devices work, whether you’re watching the livestream live or catching the keynote replay later, one thing is clear: the ecosystem is changing, and the era of the passive assistant is officially over. 

1. What Is Google I/O 2026?

Every year, developers, creators, and tech fans turn their attention to one event: Google I/O — Google’s biggest stage for revealing the future of its technology. From Android and Search to AI breakthroughs and experimental products, this is where Google shows what comes next. At this year’s event on May 19, 2026, held at the iconic Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. During the two-hour keynote, Sundar Pichai unveiled major updates across Gemini, Search, Android, and Google’s expanding AI ecosystem. And the numbers showed just how massive Google’s AI push has become. The Gemini app has now surpassed 900 million monthly active users — nearly double what it had last year. Google also revealed that it now operates 13 products with more than 1 billion users, while 5 of its platforms have crossed an astonishing 3 billion users each.

2. Gemini 3.5 Flash — The New Flagship Model

Google kicked off with a major model announcement: Gemini 3.5 Flash. This new model combines frontier AI intelligence with the ability to perform agentic tasks — meaning it can take actions, not just answer questions. Gemini 3.5 Flash surpasses its predecessor Gemini 3.1 Pro in coding, agentic, and multimodal benchmarks, while being 4x faster in output tokens per second. Gemini 3.5 Flash is rolling out today across the Gemini app, Google Search, Antigravity 2.0, and the Gemini API. Gemini 3.5 Pro is currently in testing and will be available next month.

3.Gemini Omni — AI Video Creation

Google describes it as a new series of models that combines Gemini’s reasoning with creation. Gemini Omni Flash accepts image, audio, video, and text input and outputs video grounded in real-world knowledge that can be easily edited.  You give Gemini Omni almost any input — a photo, a voice recording, a text prompt — and it creates a polished video from it. This puts Google in direct competition with OpenAI’s Sora and other AI video tools. This is one of the most exciting part.

4. Ask YouTube — New Way to Search Videos

Ask YouTube is a new conversational search experience built into YouTube. Instead of watching a full video, you can ask YouTube a question and get a direct answer pulled from video content across the platform. It is rolling out more widely this summer after being available to Premium subscribers.

5. Android XR — Smart Glasses

Google confirmed that Samsung’s Intelligent Eyewear glasses are launching this fall, powered by Android XR. These smart glasses bring Gemini AI directly to your face — letting you ask questions, get directions, translate languages, and more, all hands-free. This is Google’s major push into wearable AI, competing with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.

Google I/O 2026 was one of the most packed keynotes in the company’s history. From Gemini 3.5 and Omni to Spark, Googlebooks, Android XR smart glasses, and a completely redesigned Search, Google has made it clear that AI is no longer just a feature — it is the entire product.
